Keep the important thing the most important thing.

I took this picture years ago… and the message still holds up.

The sticky notes say it best. One says, “Still work on post-its so it can change!” The other just says, “Reading + Math MAP data.”

That’s what a good system should do. It holds the work in place, but it ALSO lets the work change when people learn something new. (Because they will. They always do.)

A strong system doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs to help people see what matters, know what to do next, and stay focused on the goal.

Here’s the thing though — in this picture, the important thing wasn’t the chart. It wasn’t the data wall. It wasn’t even the system.

It was the student.

Systems should support the work. They should not become the work.

As leaders, we have to check our systems often. Do they give people clear information? Do they help people actually act on it? Can they flex when needs change? Have you given them that power adn confidence?

If not… fix the system. Don’t just admire it.

Keep the important thing the most important thing. 💜
